nashabi skaer 1NS 3ns 2Nashashibi/Skaer, Our Magnolia (2010), 16 mm film. Taking Paul Nash’s 1944 painting Flight of the Magnolia as its starting point, Our Magnolia is the fifth collaboration between Scotland-based artists Rosalind Nashashibi and Lucy Skaer.

“The whole time, the whole of my twenties, I had a sense that I was doing the wrong thing, but I couldn’t have told you what the right thing was – except possibly it was the opposite of whatever I was doing”.

– From Sheila Heti’s conteptually simple yet highly evocative piece, ‘From my Diaries (2006-10) In Alphabetical Order’, in  N+1, No 18, Winter 2014. Here, Heti strings together sentences that begin with the same word or phrase from her diaries, creating a disjointed but richly private and emotively-charged narrative.
