linda nochlin Linda Nochlin in ‘Starting from scratch : the beginnings of feminist art history’.

Whenever I read or hear anything where Linda Nochlin discusses how she started to teach and research art history from a feminist perspective, I always get a little teary-eyed. That may sound melodramatic, but without brave people like Linda Nochlin so much art by women would be left uncovered and untouched, lost to the white heterosexual male bias of history. And every time I visit an old, grandiose gallery that chronologically charts art history in a linear order of old and new ‘masters’ with one or two ‘token’ works by a woman, I am disheartened because Nochlin’s work, and the work of people like her, is not yet done.
